In Order To Achieve The Most Distance In Your Swing You Need A Proper Golfing Grip

In Order To Achieve The Most Distance In Your Swing You Need A Proper Golfing Grip

The legendary golfer Ben Hogan always spoke of the fact that the basics of a golf swing start with the golfing grip. The proper grip used to play golf is very unique in sports, much different from games such as baseball. You cannot develop a great swing without first having a proper golfing grip, and this will surely cause your game performance to suffer. The hands are the only part of the body that have contact with the club and if the merging of club and body is not done properly, the rest of the swing will be distorted in an attempt to compensate for a poor grip.

There are a variety of different grips that many professional players use to great effect. To keep it simple, we will focus on the three most popular grips. The first grip is known as the "Vardon Grip", which calls for the hands to overlap one another. This grip has the pinky of the right hand overlapping the left hand between the index and middle finger for a right handed golfer. You will find that the individual's finger length and hand strength is not a factor with this grip, which is what makes it so popular.

Next on the list is "the interlocking grip." This golfing grip calls for the right pinky and left forefinger (On a right-handed individual) to be interlocked with one another. This is very popular amongst women and players who have small and weak hands as the interlocked fingers will keep the hands together through the entire swing. Another popular grip for individuals with small or weak hands is the "ten finger grip", a grip that calls for the entirety of one's fingers to grip the club.

Maintaining a proper grip on the golf club is vital if you want to get the most distance out of your swings. Because the grip is the only contact between the body and the club, if the grip is not correct the rest of the swing will need to be adjusted in order to hit the ball which will result in less distance and problems hitting the ball straight. By maintaining a proper grip on the club you will be able to go through all of the motions of the swing correctly and consistently. The proper grip also helps to assure that the club face will be square at impact which will prevent nasty slices or hooks.

If you want the most power out of your swing, develop a great grip that allows your wrists to hinge properly. If you release your wrists correctly your downswing will generate much more speed. If the club strikes the ball squarely it will fly straight. By combining these three things the player will have a long and powerful shot that he can repeat over and over. The basics of a golf swing begin with a proper golf grip because without one, consistent ball striking is all but impossible.

Long John Higbie is a scratch golfer who offers classes and writes about everything golf from paraphernalia to technique courses to learning the best golfing grip and everything between. Go to his web page for free tips and secrets that the best professional players all know that lets them to hit the golf ball farther and consistently achieve massive golf distance with each strike.

The Equipment You Will Need for Golfing

The Equipment You Will Need for Golfing

Like any other sports, golf requires that you are geared up correctly to be able to properly play the game. This article will give you an idea of basic golf equipment one requires to be able to learn and play golf.

For starters, the basic golf equipment is a golf ball. Golf balls are dimpled tiny balls, use in to play golf. They are dimpled to reach farther length when driven by golf clubs.

Another important golf equipment is a golf club or golf driver. Golf drivers come in different varieties. This is because a golf course has different landscapes and different golf clubs are required to make the proper drive. Depending on the landscape, either sand, grass or cement, a golf club is essential to make the perfect drive. Professional golfers usually have a bag or two of golf clubs to cater to their golf needs. Most golf stores and sports equipment store sell golf clubs. Some golf clubs are sold in sets while other are sold individually.

To protect your golf equipment, such as your golf club, a golf bag golf club cover is essential. A golf bag will, of course, hold your golf club in one place and will make it easier for your caddy to bring your many golf clubs. Golf bags can also hold golf balls and other golf equipment like water bottle to quench your thirst while under the sun or extra shirt or your regular shoes. On the other hand, a golf club cover covers the edge of your golf club. This is done so to protect your golf club from unwanted scratches and dents. Dents can cause your drive to go from ok to bad. Dents in golf clubs can affect the drive of your golf ball. With these golf equipment, you can take care of the state of your club and your game.

One golf equipment that you need to invest on is a good pair of golf shoes. Golf shoes are different from usual rubber shoes or walking shoes. Golf shoes are created to walk on greens - the type where the sport is played. Golf shoes usually have pointed rubber under the soles to grip the earth and sand under your feet. This way, unnecessary shaking or moving is avoided. This is important because shaking can cause you to not hit the golf ball or to hit the golf ball in the wrong direction. If you plan to play professional golf a good pair of golf shoes is a necessary golf equipment to add up to your list. Choose one that is sturdy yet comfortable enough for you to walk into. Golf is a sport that requires walking from one hole to another or to where your ball landed (you can not use golf carts on the greens) and thus, if your golf shoes are uncomfortable, you would have a hard time concentrating on your game.

A golf equipment usually provided by most golf courses (aside from the golf ball) is the tee. The tee is the tiny pin like thing that you punch to the ground to stand your ball into. The tee is use in teeing off (the start of your first drive) thus the name.

The most amazing golf equipment ever created (for me, that is) is the golf cart. Golf carts can take you from one hole to the other, though as I said earlier they are not allowed on the greens, they still lessen the burden of having to walk under the hot sun. This golf equipment can be acquired from golf courses. Golf players are usually made to use golf equipment such as this to give them a better and easier time playing the sport.

Many specialty shops and sport shops offer golf equipment. The internet is also a good source of golf equipment. Second hand golf equipment are even auctioned off the internet, if you are on a tight budget. Check out your local golf shop, sports shop, specialty shops, E-bay or Yahoo! for your golf equipment needs.

Why You Need A Golf Course Rangefinder

The golf course rangefinder can help you speed up your progress round the course by giving you the exact distances to the flag stick and other course features, such as hazards. At the end of this article I will show you where to buy a rangefinder, with free shipping, for the golf course.

The golf course rangefinder is one very handy piece of equipment for the golfer who wants to play better golf and not spend too much time getting round the links. You know what it's like when you think you have a three hour slot you can fill by playing most of a round of golf, if you are lucky. Well, the golf GPS will help you make the most of your time on the golf course.

When your golfing buddies see how accurate these devices are, they will be envious and want you to keep feeding them with yardage information. It is a bit like having your own clever computer caddy alongside you the whole time. The major difference is, the golfer's GPS gives more consistently accurate distances.

Here's What To Look For

When considering buying a golf course GPS, look for one which has good graphics, and is easy to read, even in bright sunlight. Shock-proofing helps as well, as does selecting a waterproofed model. If you don't, every time it rains you will have to cover it up. Who wants to do that?

I prefer a golf course rangefinder where you don't have to press too many buttons to get the information you need. One that just looks after itself and updates as you make progress round the golf course is more preferable. When you try one of these clever devices for yourself you will wonder how you ever managed to get round the golf course without one.

Four Golf Swing Basics You Need to Know

Four Golf Swing Basics You Need to Know

When learning the golf swing, there's so much information out there that at times it can be confusing. There's an over complication of the swing so this article will give you some simple golf swing basics that you can put into practice for great results.

The Fundamentals

To get a good swing you need a good set-up. The set-up and grip are both crucial to getting good consistent shots. So ensure that you have a good grip. Whether it's the overlap, the interlock or the ten finger baseball grip, you should have a light grip pressure you want to be relaxed. The "Vs" formed by the thumb and forefinger should point toward your right eye.

Next you want to ensure that you're set-up correctly firstly check your alignment at address. To do this imagine a line going from your ball to your target and stand parallel to this line. Then ensure that your body - hips, shoulders and feet are square, parallel to one another and to the target line. Next aim your clubface at the target.

Now that you're correctly aligned you need to ensure that your stance and posture are correct. Firstly stand with your feet shoulder width apart (the width of the stance should however vary depending on club but this is just a basic set-up for now), then bend at the hips and flex your knees

Make sure that you set-up with the weight on the balls of the feet and evenly balanced between your front foot and your back foot. You should then tilt your spine just slightly away from the target. You should now have the correct grip and set-up position just make sure that you feel relaxed and that you have a nice light grip pressure.

Basic Swing Shape

I want to just give you a quick understanding of the basic swing shape. Basically the swing moves in a circular shape, the "swing path" and the "swing plane" refer to two different but related things.

Let me explain... the 'swing path' refers to the path which your swing takes and the 'swing plane' refers to the angle of the swing path in relation to the ground.

So these terms are different but very much interrelated as the swing path follows the plane, now this plane is tilted it's an inclined plane. It's not vertical like a Ferris wheel but nor is it horizontal like a merry go round but rather it is tilted somewhere in between.

Correct Body Rotation

A lot of golfers are so focused on where their club is through the swing that they forget to rotate their body properly. Rotating your body correctly gives the swing power and accuracy. So before you begin the swing you should have your hips and shoulders parallel.

The rotation begins with the hips and shoulders. The hips complete their rotation before the shoulders in the backswing. The downswing rotation continues with the hips leading first followed by the shoulders.

The Importance of a Square Clubface

Having a square clubface from address to impact is vital for good golf. If your clubface open or closed through the swing or at impact then you are going to hook or slice the ball. Getting solid square contact with the ball at impact will produce a straight accurate shot. This of course is what you want.

The clubface of course needs to be square to the ball at impact. If you're opening or closing the clubface in the swing, then when the club gets back to the ball at impact it's going to be open or closed not square like it should be.

If you maintain a square clubface throughout the whole swing then it will be much easier to return the clubface square at impact. To ensure that your clubface is square you need to make a slow practice swing and take a look at the clubface position at certain points in the swing.

So set-up with the clubface square behind the ball. Next bring the back until it is horizontal to the ground - shaft parallel to the ground. At this point the toe of the club should be pointing towards the sky at about 12 o'clock - this is a square clubface position.

Continue to rotate the club back until you reach the top of the backswing. At the top of the backswing the clubface should be toe down, this is a square clubface position. By keeping the clubface square in the backswing it will be much easier to keep the clubface square in the downswing and through impact.

Now get out to the course...

So use these three basic tips, implement them into your game and most importantly - practice!

If you do all of these then you will build a great swing.

Know Your Golf Clubs – Seven Key Points You Need To Be Aware Of

Know Your Golf Clubs - Seven Key Points You Need To Be Aware Of

In the main, golf advice to improve our game tends to focus on using a variety of tips and drills designed to help build a better golf swing or hit the ball further.

Whilst this information may be useful, little or none of it ever takes account of one of the most important factors that will allow us to play the best golf we are capable of playing; i.e. the specification of our clubs. Indeed, the over-zealous teacher may try to cure a pupil's slice by trying to change their swing when, in fact, the problem may not be the swing but the clubs!

In this article - which will concentrate on the irons - I shall be giving an overview of the seven key elements of the golf club that should be taken into account when assessing which clubs are best for you.

1 - Head Design

Essentially there are two types of Iron Head Design; cavity back or "perimeter weighted", and muscleback or "blades". As the name suggests, the former is distinguishable by the recessed area in the back of the head and the visible re-distribution of the weight around the perimeter; conversely, "blades" are identifiable by their relatively flat backs.

The purpose of re-distributing the weight around the head perimeter in cavity backs is, putting it technically, to increase "the moment of inertia". This is the scientific way of saying "reducing club head twist on off-center hits".

Because the vast majority of golfers are inconsistent in the way they strike the ball, the more "forgiving" cavity back clubs will be better suited to them than the "blade".

2 - Length

Firstly let me dispel one of the great myths of golf and that is, "The taller you are, the longer your clubs should be".

One of the primary factors to take into account when determining how long your clubs should be is the length of your arms, so it is important that this is taken into account when deciding which clubs to buy.

To be fair, "standard" length clubs will suit the majority of players (that's why they're "standard"!), but it is something you need to be aware of.

3 - Lie

The ideal lie of the club is that which allows the sole to be flat to the ground at impact.

If a club is too "upright" at impact, the heel "digs" in, turns the head to the left resulting in a shot to the left. Conversely, a club that is too "flat" at impact will dig its toe in and cause a shot to the right.

I have been careful to define the lie at impact. This is very important; if the sole of the club sits flat on the ground at set up, it is highly unlikely to be in that position at impact. This is because the shaft will bow during the swing with the result that the lie angle at impact will be flatter.

4 - Loft

Generally speaking the "standard" loft on clubs is pretty much suited to everyone.

There is, however, one thing to be aware of if you consider altering the loft on your clubs and that is by adjusting the loft you will change the "bounce". The effects of "bounce" are outside the scope of this article but I will just say that if you considered increasing the loft on your clubs with the intention of making it easier to get the ball airborne, you would increase the "bounce" which could actually be counter-productive insofar as you would risk "thinning" your shots.

5 - Shaft Flex

The importance of having the correct flex in your shafts cannot be over-stated. This is a huge subject but, generally speaking, the faster you swing the golf club the stiffer your shafts will need to be.

The shaft is really the most important component of the golf club and is often described as the "Engine"; get the right shaft flex and your game can improve beyond recognition.

6 - Grips

We all know there are a huge variety of grips on the market today and it is important to find a grip that feels comfortable; you may prefer the softer feel of a tour velvet, a rougher-feeling corded or a combination of the two.

It is also extremely important to check the wear on your grips as worn grips can result in the golf club twisting at impact.

Last but not least you should be measured for the size of grip that is right for you. The wrong size grip can seriously affect your performance by encouraging, for example, a slice or hook.

7 - Weight

There are really two elements in one here.

First, the overall weight of the club: second, the swing weight. The first is self-explanatory: the second can be defined as the relationship between the weight in the grip end of the club and that in the head end.

Again, this is more about comfort than anything else, and as long as the club feels comfortable there is no need to worry too much about weight considerations which is, in itself, a subject that can warrant much discussion.

If you are about to buy a new set of clubs or are not playing as well as you would like with your existing set, a little time spent considering the above Elements could result in a huge improvement in your golf game.

Golf Club Specifications – Just What You Need To Know

Golf Club Specifications - Just What You Need To Know

swing. However, if you have a swing faster than that, you will do better with a golf club with a stiffer flex, like the one marked A.

Length and Weight of the Golf Club

Both of these are very crucial factors to be looked for in the golf club specifications. The length of the golf club will vary from individual to individual depending on their heights. You can take assistance of the personnel at your local golf club store to help you find the right length for you.

The weight of the golf club is also very important feature. You would not like carrying around a club that is too heavy for you to take that swing comfortably. You must feel free to check out all the clubs available for your height in order to determine which one provides you with best control and comfort.

Even though golf club specifications can get a little complex, they cannot simply be ignored if you are serious about your game. Selecting a club with specifications that dont match your comfort levels can affect your game considerably. So dont hesitate from asking questions if you are unsure about any golf club specifications.

Discount Golf Clubs, Just What You Need

Discount Golf Clubs, Just What You Need

Golf, like other sports is a great sport, but to enjoy it, one will need a set of golf cubs, and other equipment. Else, you will be running around borrowing from your friends and others, then you need to take care of the ones you have used, give it back to them in good condition and so on. Instead why not invest a bit and get discount golf clubs for yourself? That would be wonderful way of learning the sport and not having to shell out a lot of money during your beginner stages. Golf is by nature an expensive sport, and so make sure to not invest too much while buying your first set of clubs. You can always go for the best of the lot once you are convinced this is the sport for you, or have mastered the swing and shots.

Make the game a fun one by picking up discounted clubs from your local sports stores or the clubs around your locality. Am sure, along with other sports goods, they will have golf equipments as well, which will come at a cheaper price. Now, remember that being on discount doesn't make them cheaper in quality or being used by someone else. They might have been around for a while, and so prices may have been slashed, or some newer models would have come out in the market, which means the retailer needs to find a way to sell the older ones.

Here's what you need to do once you have made up your mind about going in for these clubs initially.

Finding places selling discounted clubs

Make sure to talk to people around your neighborhood to find out if there are stores that sell discounted sports ware. Also, scan the daily newspaper for ads by people selling clubs. Sometimes, a person might have got carried away and bought an expensive set of clubs, but for some reason, would not be able to play the game, or use them. In such situations, they will put out advertisements in paper and in coffee shops announcing sale of their brand new clubs at discounted prices. A wonderful opportunity for you to grab onto and make most of.

Sports shops

Walk into the nearest sports store and enquire about sale of discounted clubs. If they dont, then ask them for other stores that might be selling them. Some of the stores that look like a warehouse are bound to be places where you get good quality cheap price clubs and other sports items. Their external appearance will give you signal on what kind of a store it is. Be aware of all the stores and keep an eye out for any discount boards or signs.

Buying on Internet

Today, almost everyone has an online presence. So,scan through the net to find sites that advertise sale of discount golf clubs. They give a good selection of clubs, apart from these, online auctions are an excellent option to explore for clubs.
