Many new Golfers ask how far a golf club distance can go, and with how much force should they hit? Generally each golf club has a specific range. But in reality it really depends on your swing, and the power of your stroke.



A golf club distance depends on many things such as the type of club, the weather conditions, the fairway, your physical fitness, your age, your swing speed, and how well your club head connects with the ball.



Sometimes one person's 5 iron distance is another golfers 3 iron or 7iron distance. According to golf digest most amateurs usually hit their drives at around 195 yards.



Don't compare yourself with the pros, because PGA pros hit theirs at around 280 yards, while LPGA pros hit at 230 yards. See the disparity even in the pros category?



Long or Short Hitter



If you play regularly you will eventually see whether you are a short hitter or a long hitter. Of course do not expect to be a long hitter the first time you play golf. But whether you're a long hitter does not always mean that you're better than the short hitter. After all, there's still the issue of your ability to putt.



You have to remember that it's not just hitting the ball. You have to be able to hit the ball, and make it fly straight at the target. There's no use for long hitters who frequently get out of bounds.



Men's and Women's Golf Clubs



There is a chart of range for golf club distance, and you can find this in most golfing stores, sporting stores or online. But there is big difference on percentage when it comes to the Men's golf clubs versus the women's golf clubs.



On the whole, longer clubs generally hit further. Since most women are less in height than men, it simply follows that their golf club distance also has a big difference from that of the men's.



Golf Club Distance Factors



How far your ball travels is affected by the temperature, air pressure and wind direction. Most new golfers tend to under hit the ball when they are trying to hit the green, so there shots are short.

To Hit The Golf Ball Better and Higher - Consider Reducing The Loft Of Your Golf Clubs


At first sight this may seem to be a strange paradox; after all, in order to hit the ball higher the obvious thing to do outside of changing the golf swing would be to increase the loft, not decrease it. This may be the accepted wisdom of "usual" golf advice, but is it necessarily correct?

Let me explain.

When set correctly in preparation to strike the golf ball, the leading edge of all irons sits off the ground; the extent to which it does depends on the club, with the leading edge of the more lofted clubs sitting more off the ground than those with less loft.

The amount by which the leading edge is off the ground is the sole angle of the golf club, commonly known as "bounce", so the sand wedge, for example, will have more bounce than, say, a six iron. As a comparison, the former may have 12 degrees of bounce against 5 degrees with the latter.

Wedges - particularly sand wedges - tend to be a law unto themselves and are, therefore, outside the scope of this article which focuses on the rest of the irons.

There may be a number of reasons for failing to get the ball airborne - de-lofting the club at impact for example - but one of the main causes is hitting the ball "thin".

Everyone has at some point in their golfing life thinned a shot so badly that it skids along the ground, sending an unpleasant wave of stinging vibration up the shaft and into the hands; but does anyone ever really consider what a thin shot is? It may seem obvious but I shall say it anyway, and that is that a thinned shot occurs when the golfer strikes the ball with the leading edge of the club.

Interestingly enough, many golfers that are prone to thinning their shots will instinctively de-loft the club to avoid the "leading-edge strike", only to find that they still fail to get the desired ball-flight for reasons that are self-evident.

The "stinging" shot described above is, of course, an obvious example of hitting the ball thin, but what about the times when the vibration is not there, the golfer has not de-lofted the club but the flight of the ball is still lower than expected? This is still likely to be a consequence of "not getting all of the ball" which is what a marginally thinned shot is.

The ultimate aim is to strike the ball with the "sweet-spot" of the club because by doing so the golfer will achieve the optimum ball-flight, direction and distance assuming all other things - such as swing path, for example - are equal. The location of the sweet-spot may vary slightly from one set of irons to another but as a general rule is situated marginally towards the heel of the club and a little below halfway up the face; the sweet spot is never on the leading edge!

Taking all of the above into account, it may help to form a picture in our minds of the position of the leading edge of the club relative to the ball at the precise moment of impact of a slightly thinned shot. Having done so, mentally "freeze" the club in that position (with the leading edge just touching the bottom of the ball) and then, whilst it is there, bend the leading edge downwards so that it and the ball are no longer in contact. Having now moved the leading edge "out of the way", re-start the golf club to complete the strike and you should "see" that it is now the club-face that hits the ball.

It follows, therefore, that for someone who is prone to thinning the ball and as a consequence fails to get it airborne, moving the leading edge "out of the way" by bending it downwards could help them to get the club face on the ball, thereby taking advantage of the available loft.

As with many things connected with golf club specification, however, the inter-relationship which exists between all aspects of the club means that moving the leading edge "out of the way" will impact on something else and in this case it is the loft. Bending the leading edge downwards - thereby reducing the distance between it and the ground (the sole angle or bounce) - will reduce the loft. Looking at it another way, reducing the loft of the club could help the "perpetual thinner" by getting the leading edge "out of the way" at the moment of impact. In any event, the effect on the loft is not great, given that a one degree reduction in bounce roughly equates to the same reduction in loft. Putting this into context, a seven iron, say, has a loft of around thirty-five degrees with about six degrees of bounce. Reducing the bounce by one degree (and I would not recommend much more - two degrees at a push, perhaps) will result in a new loft angle of thirty-four degrees.

In the right circumstances the trade-off is more than worth it because the better quality of strike can be such that the golfer's game can improve beyond recognition without the need to change the golf swing.

For non-golf aficionados, one golf ball is the same as other golf balls. The only major difference such people may see between one ball from another is the manufacturer or brand name. In the eye of a golfer lover, however, golf balls differ in more ways than one.


If you want to improve your game, you need to pay attention to the type, covering material, core structure, and compression rates of a ball. You must bear in mind that your swing and level of play should be matched with the golf ball you use. Thus, you can't expect to be like Tiger Woods simply by buying and using the same golf accessories, shoes, and balls that he uses.


Here are basic golf ball comparisons you need to know to help improve your golf games:


Common Golf Ball Types


Two-piece


If you are just starting to play golf, you most probably need to consider using the two-piece golf ball. This type of ball, aside from being the cheapest type available in the market, is aimed at providing great distance. If your swing is slow, the big rubber core of the ball helps in transferring the energy from the swing to the ball efficiently, thereby providing you with good distance.


If you are a neophyte in the game, you need to concentrate on your accuracy. Hence, you need a ball that will boost your distance, enabling you to concentrate more on building your accuracy. Once you have mastered consistency, then you need to try the other types of golf ball.


Three-piece


The three-piece ball is ideal for advanced players, who have pretty much mastered control, partly because a person wouldn't want to spend too much for a golf ball that will brandish his or her hit-and-miss swings. Such a ball, which is preferred by pro players, is composed of a core, which can be solid or made up of liquid or gel, a layer of wounded thread, and a plastic covering.


Materials used as golf ball coverings


Although there maybe other kinds of golf ball covering, the two most popular are the surlyn and balata.


Balata


Balata golf balls, which are usually three-piece balls, are made of soft covering. Professional golfers prefer such balls because they not only cuts and scuffs easily, but they are also easier to control. Furthermore, balata balls give more spin. However, these balls have shorter life span and are more expensive.


Surlyn


Surlyn balls are more apt for amateur gofers because they are cheaper. Most two-piece golf balls are made of surlyn, a hard material, thus it is more resistant to cuts and scuffs and provide more distance. Aside from being more inexpensive, such balls are also long lasting. However, it is harder to control and does not provide ample spin.


Compression rate


Traditionally, the tightness of the golf ball's thread windings determines its compression rate. Due to recent technological advancement, however, the compression rate of a golf ball is now basically dependent on how the ball is affected when it is hit. The compression rating of golf balls usually range from 70-110.


Low compression balls


Balls with compression rating of 70-80 are considered low compression balls. Such balls are soft and are easily deformed or compressed when hit. Players with slow swings are encouraged to use such ball.


Medium compression balls


Most advanced golfers prefer balls with a compression rate of 90. These medium compression balls provide both softness and ease of control.


High compression balls


Golf balls with 100-110 compression rating are high compression balls. Such balls are hard and are less likely to deform upon impact, compared to those with lower compression rates. A high compression ball is ideal for those whose club head speeds are high.


Be keen in knowing how the type of ball or its compression rates affect your performance. Keep in mind that the knowledge of golf ball comparisons is handy in enhancing your strengths and masking your weaknesses in the golf course.

Check the following list of possible faults:



Aim: Not a factor.



Don't grip the discount golf club too tightly




Grip: Too much tension in the hands at set up. (TaylorMade R9 Irons )

Posture: Make sure you flex your knees at set up so you are comfortable over the ball. It may be you are to upright through the swing. (See above).

A key element to your golf game are the tee shots. Please keep reading to find out additional golf driving techniques.


Most golfers are always seeking improvement in both their distance and accuracy of their tee shots, this is no surprise. Learning to hit a golf ball with both distance and accuracy will allow for some more opportunities for birdies and eagles. To avoid slicing or hooking the ball, you will need to ensure your accuracy skills are mastered. Mastering both the accuracy and the distance is paramount to improving your golf game.


One of the main factors to improving both your distance and accuracy is to master your setup and your stance. Always address the tee with your feet shoulder-width apart and your knees flexed.


The address must be approached with a square stance, this is one of the simplest but most effective driving tips. Both feet must line up with the target. Although a square stance must always be used, you may find that in some situations you will want to slightly open or close the stance, this is ok, as long as you do so by adjusting the forward foot up or back. Your hips and shoulders should follow the same rule and stay square to the target. Maintaining this square stance will see you having fantastic results in no time.


A tricky technique to perfect is the art of increasing the club head speed, this will ultimately improve your distance. You must ensure that you can decently wind and unwind your body, while keeping your knees in a flexed position. You must also be aware that your ability to increase distance will be squashed if you are standing too tall and straight.


You must be aware that you have a problem when you are slicing or hooking the ball regularly. A slicing or hooking ball can often mean that something is wrong with your grip. If it is too strong or too weak you will risk an open or closed club face on impact. By using a neutral grip when you strike the ball off the tee, you will easily be able to make sure that the club face stays square on impact, this will create an accurate shot.


When addressing the ball, you must play it forward. What this means is that you must keep the ball closer the the front foot of your stance. By playing the ball forward like this you are allowing the shot to fly high and most importantly, accurate.


Another of the less known golf driving techniques is to always make sure that your hips are leading the backswing, your hands and arms should follow. A true hip turn is essential in gaining distance off the tee. This is because as your hips initiate the turn, the hands, arms, head, and upper body will follow suit.


Another very important aspect of the swing is the peak. At the peak of your swing, your hips should start to lead the downswing, followed by the hands. Once you have perfected this golfing tip, you will be surprised at how much you have actually enhanced your game.


To further amend your accuracy you must also make sure that your hands are following the club head through the impact of the shot. This will allow you to keep the club face square upon impact, therefore giving you a nice straight and accurate shot, rather than a hook or slice.


To conclude our golf driving techniques, you might care to practice with a heavier 460cc driver. These are presently the heaviest drivers available, which is particularly due to their larger club head. This can help with gaining more distance but you must be aware that without appropriate practice, these clubs can be hard to master the accuracy. These clubs can take time and work to master.

Tips On How To Drive A Golf Ball Straight Down The Fairway!

Learning how to drive a golf ball straight down the fairway is probably the toughest challenge for the novice golfer as well as a veteran. Golf is a game of patience and skill and I would like to share with you some of the tips that helped improve my game.

When a person decides they are going to take up the game of golf they usually just head out to the course with a couple of buddies and just wing it from there. This is probably one of the biggest mistakes a beginner can make. The hardest place to learn how to play golf is on the golf course. Most beginners have watched golf being played on TV and they assume the game is not that difficult because the pros make it look so easy.

The best place for a first time golfer to go would be the practice range. When someone tries to golf for the first time on the actual golf course it does not take long for them to see that they do not know how to drive a golf ball straight. When you start out at the practice range you don't feel all the pressure that goes along with being on the course with a foursome standing right behind you.

Any golfer, a novice or a veteran that needs to learn how to drive a golf ball straight really has to start with the basics. Sometimes this is hard for a veteran golfer to do mostly due to their ego. When someone has been playing golf for many years the chances are good that they have picked up some bad habits and the only way they will ever be able to improve their game is if they go right back to the basics. The first thing that should be looked at is the golfers stance. If the stance is not proper and consistent they will never know how to drive a golf ball straight down the fairway. You really need to find your comfortable stance that allows you to take a complete and proper swing. There are some basic principles to follow for getting into the right stance but beyond that a golfers stance is unique to the actual golfer.

Players have a hard time making changes to how they stand or their back swing or how hard they come down through the ball because they have built up all these techniques throughout the years. The facts are the facts and if you are not consistently and yes that would be "consistently" driving the ball straight down the fairway then you need to first correct your stance. I have seen it time and time again where a veteran golfer refuses to make any changes to his golfing stance. However, having worked at a driving range for a few seasons I have witnessed more veteran golfers learn how to drive a golf ball straight down the fairway just by correcting their stance and nothing else.

Think about how many times you have taken a shot while on the course and you hear your buddy standing behind you say "you came up out of your stance" or "you didn't keep your head down or you failed to turn your hips," everyone of those actions involves your stance. I am telling you if you want to know how to drive a golf ball straight every time then the first thing you should do is get to the practice range and hit the ball over and over completely focusing on your body's stance 100% of the time. This is the biggest problem for any golfer who doesn't know how to drive a golf ball straight down the fairway every time.

I know you were probably expecting a whole bunch of other tips but the truth is when it comes to playing golf sometimes too much help will do more harm then good. Just give this article some thought the next time you are on the course and you find yourself having a difficult time hitting the golf ball straight. I know if you perfect your stance you will know how to drive a golf ball straight down the fairway with every hit.

This way you'll be able to get the ball in the correct positionmore often than not. After you have the golf ball and you've gripped it and you have addressed it, then you'll just look down, take a peek down, and if this golf ball is running towards the left heel, then this is correct.


If you look down and you see the golf ball is a little too far forward off your left, that's too far forward and you'll probably see that the shoulders are aimed too far to the left.


On the other hand, if you look back down and you think the ball is too far back in your stance when you put this shaft along you, you'll be aiming way off to the right.


So, after you've addressed the golf ball, all you have to do to get ready for your driver golf swing is bring the shaft up andlay it along your shoulder line, and it should be going in the direction you want to go with it.


If you get it too far back in your stance at address, you'll wind up aiming your shoulders too far off to the right.


And if you get it off the left heel, this should be proper for most people. Give that a try the next time out.



Posture


When you go out and play golf, do you consistently hit the ball fat? How many times to you hit the ball thin?


I believe it has a lot to do with your posture. There have been a lot golf tips written on posture, but let me give it to you real quick, real simple, and I guarantee you this will help you the next time you're out.


If you tend to hit the ball fat and hit the ground behind the ball, there is a chance you might be bent over a little too much. If I try to hit the golf ball while I'm bent over too much, I run into the ground, way behind it.


Here are a few golf tips to help you. Instead, at address, simply lift your chin up a little bit, and that will help you swing the golf club back into the golf ball where you'll hit the ball first and then the ground.


If you tend to hit a lot of thins and tops, there's a chance you might be standing a little too tall. When you come back into the back of the ball, you constantly run over the top of it, or you hit it thin and you blade it.


Take these golf tips with you the next time you go play. Also, feel that your knees are slightly flexed, and from the two bones on each side of your hips, just bend over a little bit.


I guarantee you that these golf tips will help you stop from hitting the ground behind it or topping it, whatever the mistake is that you make.

How To Drive A Golf Ball Farther More Consistently

The driver can be without a doubt the most difficult club in the bag to hit. The reason for this is because it is longer and even the slightest swing flaw can put the wrong kind of spin on the ball resulting in either a slice or a hook. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when learning how to hit this club.


Tip 1: Maintain balance


Balance is critical in the golf swing because a balanced golf swing is usually much more accurate and on plane than an unbalanced one. One of the keys to staying balanced is to swing within yourself. You need to know your limits and then swing with control. Remember that it is not necessary to swing hard in order to hit the golf ball far.


Distance comes from making good contact and also from launching the ball at the correct launch angle and putting the right kind of spin on the ball. The formula for hitting a monster drive in the fairway can be rather complex but it is not impossible to accomplish.


Tip 2: Use proper equipment


The driver you choose should be based on your current swing speed. If your club head speed is under 100 mph then you need to choose a driver that has a regular flex and has loft greater than 10 degrees. If your club head speed is over 100 mph then a club with a stiff flex and loft lower than 9 degrees would be appropriate.


Tip 3: Build your wrist muscles


The wrist muscles play a vital role in swinging a golf club. Many tour players that look really skinny still have very powerful wrist muscles. This helps them to control the club and generate great club head speed. One way to build wrist muscles is to do wrist curls. Simply take some dumbbells and hold them to your side while standing and then move your wrists up and then down slowly. Make sure you feel your wrist muscles working and do not get other muscles involved in lifting the weights.


Tip 4: Practice


I hate to say this but there is no magic cure to hitting drives far and straight overnight, at least none that I have come across yet. The fact is that you will have to put the time and commitment necessary to learn the golf swing. This does not mean that you have to beat 500 golf balls a day. Rather hitting even a small bucket with focus and purpose on every shot can be effective done 3 to 5 times a week.


Focus on quality rather than quantity during your practice sessions. We all lead busy lives and most of us simply cannot commit massive amounts of time and energy to just golf so make sure you practice smart rather than hard.


Tip 5: Use leverage more effectively


There are a lot of tour pros that hit the golf ball a mile but they look really thin. Usually we would think that it is the big muscular guys that hit the ball far however in golf, leverage is the ticket to hitting the ball farther. Leverage is the angle created between the left hand and the club shaft on the downswing just before impact. You want this angle to be as small as possible so that the stored energy is released at the last moment and is transferred to the ball.


One way to create more leverage effortlessly is to think of the club as a whip and feel yourself whipping the golf club through the hitting zone. Also try to avoid getting your right hand involved in the down swing if you are a right handed player since this tends to result in casting the club or releasing the leverage angle too early, instead feel yourself pulling the club with your left hand through the downswing.
